Remember not to Forget

You know that feeling, after a great action packed and fun filled weekend, when you come back to work and one of your co-employees mentions something funny that happened on Friday night when you all went out for drinks that you had completely forgotten about? Yeah, travel is like that, but there’s more to it, and the last thing you want to do is forget any of your precious memories. Here are some helpful suggestions to help you remember your experience better during your next overseas vacation.

When in doubt, write it out.

Keeping a travel journal is a great way to hold on to the moment, but if you forget to make entries, you may lose the specifics of what happened. Be sure to write in it every day, and be as detailed as possible. One thing that you can do is make an outline of what happened throughout the day. Bring some kind of little notebook or notepad that can fit in your back pocket with a small pen or pencil. Write down everything you feel, right as you feel it. You could theme it, and only write your first impressions, or go into more detail if you are inclined. That way when the time comes to compile your memories, you have a loose outline you can use. Do yourself a favor and don’t use an electronic device to write on. There will be something special about having a book you can hold for years to come.

Don’t feel like writing? You can always use the voice recorder on your smartphone to take notes. It’s a little cumbersome to deal with all the audio files, but something will always be better than nothing, and if it helps you remember, that’s a good thing. Of course there’s always the video route, but the last thing you want to do is focus too much on the act of preserving the moment, instead of getting lost in it.
