We tend to fly into larger cities and then roam for a week or two. We've priced out car rentals, taxis, trains, you name it. Our findings have been that a car rental is the answer if you are looking to be able to explore outside the major cities. It enables you to travel at your own pace, no train schedule to adhere to and you can also save money since you are splitting the cost of the rental and fuel. With rising costs, I've changed my preference from first class to business or sometimes coach and use my savings from my airfare to still allow myself the benefits of a 4 star hotel.
