Travel Trivia Thursday
Posted by Hans Ericsson | Under Destination Spotlight Thursday Nov 13, 2008There were some interesting guesses for last weeks Travel Trivia, but the person with the correct answer was Kat. The Image in the photo is in fact, the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona, Spain. There are hundreds of triumphal arch’s located all over the world, even a handful here in United States.
This weeks question relates to the photo below.

Q. In what city was the above photo taken?
Hint: Government officials are often seen buzzing around these buildings.
Good luck!

Clearly, the statue to the left immortalizes a man whose theories of social organization advocated common ownership of means in which to produce and distribute products of industry based on need. Karl Marx’s doctrines of philosophy and politics touched the lives of millions of people around the globe for generations. Bless his soul!
This lovely city is Wellington in New Zealand! A few years ago, you just may have seen some hobbits running around as well..but they have all gone back to Hobbiton now…
and the answer to the question is Wellington, New Zealand. Under the orders of Stalin, the communist army led by Leon Trotsky assumed control of the New Zealand islands. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, New Zealand now operates as a free republic, however, remnants of its soviet past are still present in the buildings and monuments such as the statue of Karl Marx that I commented on prior.
