Many people choose to visit Europe for its deep historical value. In major cities, you can find ancient landmarks and monuments around every turn, and it can be a cultural experience of a lifetime. A great city to experience a mix of history and culture is Rome. There is so much to see it can be overwhelming. Here are a few of the top sights you won’t want to miss on your next vacation in Rome.

One of the most instantly recognizable landmarks in Rome is the Roman Coliseum. This massive ancient structure was completed in 80 AD, and had seating for 80,000 people. Gladiators would compete in life or death competitions to the cheers of the audience. Other public spectacles were also held there, animal hunts, executions, battle re-enactments, and plays. Some have guessed that the number of people who died in the Roman Coliseum to be upwards of a half a million. This mighty monument still stands as a backdrop to the streets of Rome.

Rome is home to many stunning Baroque fountains, the largest and most visited being the Trevi fountain. This beautiful fountain was built in the 15th century, and is known for attracting large crowds who toss in coins for good luck. An average of three thousand Euro’s are collected from the water each day, with the proceeds benefitting non-profit organizations.

Visitors are always flocking to Capitoline Hill to see some of the beautiful architecture that was designed by Michelangelo. The area is filled with statues and monuments and is one of the most visited locations in Rome.

There are so many attractions in Rome that many people choose to stay there for weeks just to take it all in. Of course, a car rental in Rome can get you around to where you need to be, whether it’s in the city limits, or the entire Italian countryside. Wherever you go, you are sure to learn lots about ancient Roman culture, and be awestruck by all the stunning art throughout the city.

I’m not gonna lie. The only reason I’d travel to Rome is for the chance to be swept away by some mysterious Italian man on his moped. Todd, if you’re reading this…I still love you! We’re still going rollerblading tonight, right?
